Wraps.

The wrap is the waterproof section of the nappy; the part that stops any wetness getting to the baby’s clothes.
A well fitting wrap will ensure that the baby is comfortable, and that the nappy does not chafe or leak. You will need between 4 and 6 wraps per size, and 3 to 5 sizes will be needed from birth to potty training (numbers required depend on what sort or wraps you use, how often you wash the wraps, and what age your baby potty trains). A good quality wrap will perform well until the baby outgrows it, and then should be able to be used for a second, and even third child. Alternatively, if wraps are still in good condition after one child’s use, they can be sold via the 2nd hand nappy market.
Our preferred wraps are made by Motherease, but we also stock a variety of other makes, to give alternative options to add to your nappy collection.

Motherease Wraps.

Motherease wraps are made of a breathable laminated polyester knit. They are soft and comfortable for the baby, easy to care for, and long lasting.

Motherease: Rikki
The Rikki fastens with Velcro. It is designed for use with all Motherease nappies, and is also recommended for use with other types of nappy which do not fasten and need a tight fitting wrap to hold them in place (eg. prefolds). The Rikki is a good choice for a newborn, as it can be adjusted to fit very snugly, ensuring good containment. In addition, the Velcro is easy to use when you are getting used to using cloth nappies for the first time.

Washing instructions: Machine wash at 40°c (recommended) or 60°c. Tumble dry on a low heat

Motherease: Air Flow
The Air Flow fastens with poppers. Again, it can be used with all Motherease nappies, and is recommended for use with other types of nappy which fasten with Velcro, nippas or poppers (eg. Ella’s House). It has a unique ‘air flow’ pocket across the front to increase breathability. The Air Flow is a good choice for an older baby, as the poppers are difficult for little fingers to undo, and can be easier to fasten when the baby is wriggling, or standing up.

Other Wraps.

While Motherease are generally our recommended brand, we also stock a selection of other wraps, which on some occasions may be more suitable.

Modern Baby Cotton
The Modern Baby Cotton Wrap is a good alternative to the Rikki if you want a different sort of print. Made from breathable polyester with a polyurethane coating inside, and a cotton outer, the wrap fastens with Velcro, and is of a good quality. Available in five gorgeous gingham colours, the wrap is nice to show off, especially in the summertime, and can be worn to good effect with just a sundress or t-shirt.
Washing instructions: Machine wash at up to 60°c. Can be tumble dried.

Prorap
The Prorap was designed specifically for use with prefolds and is excellent for nappies which need to be held in place by a snug fitting wrap. The double gusset at the leg reduces the likelihood of leaks which can be a problem with flat nappies such as prefolds and terries. It is made of a breathable polyester knit with a laminated lining. Velcro fastening, and one of the only wraps available for very tiny babies (from 2lb upwards).
Available in white only.
Washing instructions: Machine wash at up to 60°c. Can be tumble dried.

Tots Bots Fleece Wraps
Tots Bots fleece wraps are a colourful range designed to be worn at night time. Fleece is a water repellent, which holds the wetness in but unlike PUL, the typical fabric for daytime wraps, fleese is extremely breathable. This allows much of the moisture to evaporate, leaving baby cooler and drier.
Velcro fastening. Colours available: red, strips and spots.
Washing instructions: Washable to 40°c (recommended) or 60°c. Tumble dry on a low heat.
