Washing Your Nappies and Wraps.

Nappies.
Once your baby passes the 12 nappies a day newborn stage, two or three loads per week is usually sufficient to keep a supply of clean dry nappies coming. Alternatively, nappies can be added to the family’s daily laundry loads as they are used.

Nappies can be stored in a lidded bucket until they are washed. There is no need to soak nappies, although some people do prefer to soak heavily soiled ones in tea tree oil, sanitising powder, or their own mix.

A normal wash at 60°c is sufficient to cleanse your nappies. The days of boiling nappies were over with the invention of the modern washing machine.

Most nappies can be tumble dried, or dried on a clothes airer. The best way to dry them is on the line in the sunshine, as this will deodorise, sanitise and naturally bleach the nappies.

Wraps.
You will only need 4-6 wraps in each size, depending what sort of nappies you use, and how often you wash them. The wrap does not need to be washed at every nappy change; it can be air dried between changes, and it is sufficient to wash each wrap every couple of days unless it is soiled.

To maintain the waterproofing, and ensure that the wraps are long lasting, a 40°c wash is best for most, although many wraps can be washed at 60° with your nappies. Most can be tumble dried on a low heat, but this is not usually necessary as the wraps dry very quickly. It is best to dry them on a clothes airer, or on the line; putting wraps on a radiator may reduce their waterproof qualities.
