More About the Modern Cloth Nappy System. The days of fraying terry squares, sharp pins and uncomfortable plastic pants are over, and there’s no longer a need to soak or boil your nappies. Nappies come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, in different fabrics, and with different methods of fastening. However, all nappy systems basically comprise three parts:
Nappy – the absorbent part. These can be flat or fitted, square or shaped and are sometimes elasticated. Fabrics available include terry, fleece, flannelette, and hemp, in white, unbleached and a variety of colours and patterns. Some fasten themselves with poppers or velcro, some need to be fastened with a nappy nippa, and some are held in place with a tight fitting wrap. Wrap – the waterproof part. Most wraps are made with a breathable waterproof fabric, and are designed to keep the baby's clothes dry, while letting air circulate around the nappy area. Wraps are available in white or a variety of colours and patterns, some are shaped like pants, and some lie flat for easy changing, and they can fasten with velcro or poppers. A snug fitting wrap ensures that the baby is comfortable, and that the nappy doesn’t leak.
